Just got back from a wonderful week away from all the smoke here in the northern Sacramento Valley. Unfortunately is was still here when we returned.
Anyway, here are two photos I took while enjoying the beach with this challenge in mind. I was using my new Sigma 10-20mm Ultra Wide lens. The far peninsula in the center of the photo was my vantage point for the second shot. Steve The fence was about 10 inches from the front of the camera. I crouched down so as to be able to see the view to the beach between the boards. This is Asilomar beach. Notice the couple walkin on the beach. I used the onboard flash to brighten up the forground a little. ![]() |

#2 This was one on my stops along the beautiful 17 Mile Drive heading towards Pepple Beach. I was riding my bike and stopping at many points of interest. In this shot the yellow flowers were only a couple of feet away while looking north toward Asilomar beach. Again, I shot this with the Sigma 10-20mm. The shot above was taken from the distant beach on the far left of this photo.

This has been an inspiring 'challenge', I feel, for all of us, both as proponents and as avid viewers of the images. These are excellent examples of the way in which including both close & distant subjects adds an extra level of 'reality','presence'.
As you know, I love pictures to 'tell a story' and for that reason I'm always keen that shots where possible include some context. We can see where we've been and where we're going.; it takes us for a walk. This couple of weeks we've been made to do it. Well crafted, artistically, and technically, as ever! |

Very nice shots, Steve. This is one of my favorite spots. That and San Diego. (Of course, you notice both are in California!)

Thank you Patty, I agree, what's not to like about Monterey or San Diego?
