I think there are two pathways indicated here. The refuge road is the obvious one but I think the winter flyway of the geese could be another.

The similar black & white contrasts of the geese and the mountains, in layers above the green and black lumpiness of the nearer hills make this a wonderful and intriguing composition.
I suspect you knew this, at least subconsciously, Steve, or was it just good luck and a good eye? I prefer it a little cropped. Hope you don't mind, because you're a master and it's a masterpiece!... |

Beautiful shot, Steve. I really can't tell much difference between your original and Alan's crop.

Thank you very much, everyone for your kind words.
Alan, Master eh? Well, you and I think very much alike. I have another crop that I meant to post. It's a 12x18 crop. The other picture is a straight 8x10 crop. Here's my 12x18 version, which by the way, looks really good printed as a satin finish even if I do say so myself. Alan, I believe your version is also a 12x18 crop and I don't mind in the least. Thank you. Liu, thank you again for your high praise. To achieve the look of this photo I boosted the exposure by 1/2 stop and then I brought the levels in slightly on each side of the levels histogram in either iPhoto or CS3. That seems to brighten and increase contrast to the point you see here. I have posted the original picture below for comparison. Cal, I agree that there is not alot of difference between the two crops. Here is the 12x18 crop. Here is the original untreated photo Last edited by smac; Jan 30, 2014 at 12:02 PM. |
