This is taken in 2010, it's probably my best surfing picture.

Hi mtngal
It's a good'un! Sharp, contrasty and natural (not overdone). I like the look of concentration on her face. Thanks for sharing.. Paul |

Thanks!
Walter - I took this with a 300 f4 lens. It's cropped and I got lucky in some ways. I was standing on the jetty in Oceanside and the surf was breaking somewhat toward me. A factor that wasn't so much a lucky thing as it was planned, is the lighting - I was out early in the morning and the sun was low behind me, perfectly lighting her face. I did very little processing beyond cropping. |

Fantastic. I bet the young lady was thrilled with the picture, too.

I have no idea who the surfer was, so I doubt she even knows the picture exists. I took the picture for my own pleasure, it was just happenstance that I happened to be in Oceanside when they were having some type of surfing contest. There's almost always surfers at this spot, but not always as much action, good lighting, and surfers riding toward the jetty. The last time I was there, the surf was breaking over the jetty (which made for a cool picture of a surfer standing on the jetty with the spray of the wave over his head) so I didn't venture out on it.
