Tamarack trees are conifers that turn yellow and loose their needles in the fall. The can be quite spectacular set against the darker evergreens.

I like that..............and they are cool trees..(good firewood too)
I should add..I am new to this, and I just found out about selective color here. Its kinda neat, but I haver yet to see one that 'fits' and looks rather natural (if you know what i mean) This one does. To me if you weren't paying attention you wouldn't notice it was SC...the other trees look like they have a dusting of snow and well are just dark. where the larch is lite up by a setting sun...for example.. Nice shot. Looks like an evergreen that doesn't act like one. Being in Hawaii, we don't have seasonal colors.

I have heard of these trees and have probably seen some here in the Pacific Northwest or in Eastern Idaho. Nice job.

I sort of think it would work better with the natural dark green of the pine forest.

Could you post the original so I can see how it stands out. I've never seen one before.
Thanks. |

Here is the full color version. I am interested in which version people consider the most interesting.

I imagine it looking more like this: In which case, it's far more interesting as a color shot. Dave |

Great job on the selective color, that picture just jumps right out at the viewer. Of the two shoots, I like the selective color version best by far.
Chato, your version looks more of how my mind would see it but the OP color version seems more real to me. Last edited by Calicajun; Oct 24, 2009 at 8:44 PM. Reason: Forgot to answer the OP question. |

Chato it was a cold fall day, 12 degrees F, after a long hot summer the firs are dried out and mangy. Yours looks warmer to me like it was taken during the summer or early fall. I am asking you politely not to edit my work. The ones I want edited by others will be posted in the Critiques and Techniques section. Thank you for your interest.
