I was out on the water front in Seattle last weekend looking for shadows, or anything else I would like to take a photo of. The sun was setting and I was hoping for some good clouds for the sunset. It wasn’t looking good as all the clouds were on the horizon and small. Clouds make the sunset with there shadows. So as the sunset was kind of blah I turned around and was looking for better things. After about 5 minutes of checking out the buildings/people I started to hear from the people around how pretty the sun rays (technical called Crepuscular rays) were. I wasn’t really listening then I thought you only get sun rays from the shadows off of clouds. I turned around to see what was all the babble was about and this is what was there. I swear I did not paint the rays in. A minute or 2 later it was just a normal sunset. Even if it doesn’t meet the challenge at least it is eye candy.

Beautiful shot even though I don't understand what is happening. So, are the the dark rays in between the lighter pink rays actually shadows caused by mountains or clouds obstructing some of the sun's light?

Agreed, not the greatest example of shadows but a pretty good one of crepuscular rays.
