I took this near my home a few months ago. It was interesting to see the years of repainting exposed.

Hi spedangie
Congratulations for being the first poster in this new challenge. Wow, it certainly is interesting to see the various layers and years of repainting coming through. The colours are quite a mix-match! The shallow depth of field (dof) is certainly noticeable. Is this pump still used? Regards Paul |

Good example of a shallow depth of focus...seemed to be on the letter "B". What equipment?

I agree with Walter. Seeing those layers of different colors of paint makes me wonder what tool to use to strip down to the bare metal. When I was in the Navy, they used air operated tools to remove paint. One looked like a miniature jack-hammer and the other called a needle gun had about 20 "needles" about the size of 16-penny nails loosely attached on the business end. When compressed air was applied, the "needles" vibrated length-wise and could really do a number to old paint without damaging the metal.

No, it has no handle! It's part of the local historical society's site that contains a one room school with horse barn and shed as well as two mid 1800's log cabins that have been moved there. The pump was used to provide water for the school.

I used an Olympus E510 with a 40-150 lens at F13. The lens was at the full 150 range.
