Today it was in the upper 70s and it was Kite Day here in HB. There was a mob of people at the pier, on the beach and on Main Street. Exhibitions of kite flying were most impressive, done to the accompaniment of music. Bongo drums and tamborines gave a constant throbbing to the milling crowds. Beach volleyball games were happening on a dozen courts.
And there were contrasting messages being delivered. These two juxtaposed signs made it somewhat surreal. This fellow just stood quietly with his sign for the entire couple of hours that I was photographing kites, people, performers, etc. |

Meanwhile, this old codger was all over the place looking for anyone's attention that might have spare change or, even better, some weed. He danced, twirled, hopped, squatted and posed.
Selvin: Not sure this is what you had in mind when you asked us to shoot some Chamber of Commerce type photos.:-) |

Walter,
In my instructions I mentioned the possibility of recording events. Your off-beat shots certainly qualify for this. Like you when taking shots of parades and similar I always throw in a few off-beat shots. They add to the flavor of the event and accurately portray what's going on. These fellows cover the sublime to the profane. I like it. Aloha |

Nice vision in seeing the possibilities for these shots.

Nice shots Walter, I wonder what type of pot that guy needs! He is squatting and seems he's not asking for rolling papers!

And then there was this fellow who was sporting permanent signs...all over his body.

Interesting collection of shots. I've never seen anyone panhandle for pot! Do you suppose the cops are watching him? The photo of the tattooed guy is good but the sight of people with that many tattoos almost makes me wretch! Personnally, I don't like to see even one tattoo.
