The "other" huge building that juts out of the Hot Springs skyline is one that far too many World War II veterans have memories of....the old Army-Navy hospital, to which thousands of seriously wounded soldiers and sailors were brought during and after World War II for rehabilitation. Viewing the building from the vantage point of the Mountain Tower, you don't get the impression of the building's size

From the ground, however, it's much easier to appreciate how massive the building is

Today, the old hospital is operated by the Department of Rehabilitative Services of the state of Arkansas as a jobs training facility for injured and developmentally disabled workers.

Edit: BTW, there was no editing on the sky in #2. It was really that blue on Sunday. Each of these pics is virtually straight out of the camera with only minimal sharpening.

A sad thing, war. How easy it is to forget the price we pay, and go stumbling and breast-pounding into another. Thanks for the reminder of the aftermath which, for so many of these men and women, is a price paid for a lifetime.
