With time running out rapidly for this fortnight, I got out in the sunshine & played at tourism yesterday, visiting first Nantwich, an ancient market town about 12 miles east.

Many of its half-timbered building are genuinely old, unlike the mostly Victorian recreations in Chester. The pretty town centre is now pleasantly pedestrianised, and this is the Crown Hotel, a sixteenth century coaching inn.

As is the way of the things, many of my intended subjects faced north, or were otherwise shaded, or else the fluffy clouds intervened.

I remembered this fine 1577 mansion from 30-odd years ago, before ring-roads, when we passed regularly onour route to the Midlands.

If any of you have managed to rescue the odd million dollars, you could buy it...
