Then was taken around the turn of the century, now was taken around the turn of the next century.

Congratulations to Fairmount, IN. Looks like they've done a great job of preserving the character of their downtown. Other than the cars and traffic lights, it looks like little has changed at that corner.
Nice comparison shot, Bob. Paul |

Bob,
Classic restoration. The new version looks like it was done with lots of love. |

Thank you both! I was raised in this small town and from time to time I get a chance to visit. I can walk down the main street close my eyes and go back to the fifties, in some ways time has stood still.

Hey Bob, that is a remarkably preserved/restored building. Virtually identical to the original. You dont see that much anymore. Really nice to see it.

I always like the style of the old buildings, so it nice to see some being kept instead of replaced with the no style new ones.

Wow! In the second shot, the building looks new. It is amazing to see that the same bank is still there. The brickwork looks brand new. Either it was very well done originally and just cleaned or they replaced it with all new bricks.
It is interesting to compare the overall scene. The major difference is that the horse drawn wagons have been replaced with automobiles and traffic signals added. Great job. Cal |

If it were possible to take the shot of the bank building from the same angle as the original it would be fun to then put all the old people in the picture at perhaps 50 or 60% so they would be like ghosts. Do the same with the horse and buggies as well. What an awesome pic that would be......or not.
I think this has possibilities. |
