The State has been talking about closing Bodie to save money for a year or more. That's the reason I made a point of visiting last August, I was afraid it would be the end of it. What worries me is if they pull out all people from there - thieves and vandals would make sure that it all disappeared in short order. A number of people over the years worked very hard to keep Bodie and it's quite unique. I would hate to see their hard work go to waste (don't get me started about California's woes).

LOL, Not trying to start anything, just letting everyone know they better hurry to Bodie if they want to get some great pictures. Wish I could get some time to go up there and shoot. |

A great group of photos. The first two remind me of an old grist mill that has been restored a short distance north of Portland in southern Washington.

The first one is a picture of the town's bank vault. The bank is gone but the vault is still there. The second one is the 20 stamp mill that basically ran on a belt system, so it's not surprising that it reminds you of a grist mill. Nothing in Bodie is restored - they just protect what's there from deteriorating more than it already is (I think they call it "arrested decay". It's really interesting to see what people left behind when they moved out of Bodie - beds, chairs, some dishes and clothes etc. The undertaker left some unused caskets in one building, and there's a barber's chair in another.
