I'm not real great at still life shots. But, here's my attempt at capturing some egg nog in the holiday spirit.

Cute idea. Although in this case, the background may be working against you, a tad too busy.
I know you're up against the light color of the drink and needing a contrast . Oh well who said it would be easy. Aloha and thanks for sharing. |

Since its a stationary shot, you could have closed your aperture down as small as possible to increase your depth of field. All the cinnamon sticks and glass should be in focus.

Yep, Selvin and Bynx I see both of your points. I'll try again tomorrow for something with less busyness in the print and adjust the aperture. I also had a problem with the reflection in the foil paper. Third photo with new camera and had too many things to think about.

Haven't had a chance today to try again. Will wait till sunlight tomorrow now. Here is the first shot I had taken with the camera, though. It is actually in better focus and has better dof to it. I just hadn't used any flash and it was a little dark.
Vsch, you asked about the new toy. My hubby saidI could upgrade from my Pentax K100D to the K20D as my Christmas present. It's taking some getting used to. Lots of extra options and things are in different places. I had hoped to go out with it tomorrow and play around some, but seems the weather is not going to cooperate. So, will be doing indoor shots again. (Might just put something in the eggnog this time :-)) Patty |

Better focus sure helps here. While the background paper makes it very Christmassy, its a little too busy for the photo. If you were shooting an advertisement page for an eggnog drink there would be no clean place to place the type. Just my opinion.

Good point, Bynx. I checked all the available paper here at home and nothing good. Might have to try something else.
