I tried to capture this season’s large run of pink salmon, called Humpies, the males grow a large hump on their back in fresh water. Out of the many attempts this is the one I liked the best. Shot with a circular polarizer. This frame is different than most I took. I like its primitive feel, perhaps I’m all wet, what do you think?
![]() Here is a more typical shot, notice all the fish eggs in the gravel. ![]() Last edited by philby; Nov 5, 2009 at 8:17 PM. |

Fact is most salmon come from fresh waters have you eve been to Wyoming? I know of a place I am going to go to soon as I get some more business my way so I can place the information on line I can find any at all here... a very interesting place. Where I live we have Salmon all over the place they have been very busy this fall in Port Orchard, WA that they have been drawing in more seals.. the more fish the more predators... Besides you have heard of all the trash issue in the ocean would you want food from a trash dump site or fresh till...?

The fish is not all that big it is somewhat less that 2 feet long, the smaller of the salmon species that spawn in our local streams.
I don't know why they grow a hump but all species change radically when they enter fresh water. The location is a stream in the Upper Skagit County of Washington State. |

Good images! Where I'm at, the salmon turn red during the run.
