This is a cottage by artist David Winter. He first carves the sculpture out of wax, then a latex mold is made which destroys the wax, and the molds are then filled with a gypsum type substance and hand painted. The detail in these are just amazing. The title of this one is "Woodcutters Cottage".

I find it kind of sad that the artist looses his original piece. But you are right, beautiful detail.

Nice closeup with great commentary. That is called lost wax casting. The process is used in everything from dentures to model railroad parts.
