I think I prefer the HDR version. Nice photograph. Is this the mission that the swallows return to?

I, too, like the HDR version better. More detail.

The tonemapped version did something I don't like on the floor - made it kind-of grey and it lost some detail at the outside edge. That bothers me, but otherwise I like the boost in a bit of saturation (grey day, flat light isn't good for this type of photography). You might be able to do as well with other pp means and not lose the detail in the floor pavers, not sure.
Love the old building, regardless. |

Undoubtedly the tide seems to be in favor of the second shot primarily because of the additional details that come to light. Only the object in the glass (plastic) case in the lower left seems to have suffered because of the post editing. A small price to pay for the extra details elsewhere.

My vote goes with the majority--Door #2, the second HDR shot. The items pointed out by Mtngal seem insignificant to me.

I agree with the majority. Number 2. I like the details in the brick and stone.

Thanks for all the comments.
Robert - the swallows no longer return to Capistrano - the surrounding urbanization has replaced the agricultural fields that supplied the insects for them to feed on. In the several hours we were there, I saw only two swallows and found only one nest. The ironical thing was that they had binoculars set up on a tripod for the tourists to view an artificial nest from which issued recorded swallow vocalizations! ![]() Selvin, the object in the Lucite case is a scale model of this larger scale model representing the church before the earthquake: ![]() ![]()

Using the best of both images I came up with this.

Call me weird, but I like #1. I like the old, faded look of the old, faded place.
