I took this picture early one morning in 2009. I had more or less forgotten about it until a friend of mine found it in one of my albums this summer and raved over it. So I thought I'd post it here.

Thanks for the compliments - the funny thing is that I was originally disappointed in the shot. I keep the "blinkies" on and when reviewing the picture I noticed that the sky was blown out - it's a huge fault with this picture. Also, when I was reviewing it I thought the edge of the fountain was distracting so took a bracketed series at a slightly longer focal length - that view looked lousy when I saw it on the monitor, and ended up only keeping this one, just because I liked the reflection and the early morning light on the building. Figured I liked them enough to ignore the sky, but that no one else would like it. It surprised me that my friend liked it so much - goes to show that it's easy to not see the forest for the trees. I've now made my peace with this picture, it prints very nicely.

I do some club photography and i find that if listen to judges to much it stops me taking shots or even throwing them away of things i like. I get accused of taking mumsy pictures. so i try to balance what i take. your shot draws you in to the building and the reflection and to me that just great the sky is secondary

Stunning building, and subtly captured the reflection too.
Well done... and the various lines and mix of colours works very well. Thanks for sharing. Paul |

I agree that you can never predict what others like. I wonder how many "masterpieces" I've deleted thinking they are garbage.... ![]()

Beautiful shot! I have shot quite a few water reflection shots but most were rather mundane.

Thanks for the compliments - I love this building and often photograph it. It was built in the mid-1920's, and has some lovely terra-cotta both inside and out.
The picture is unusual - the reflection is captured in a fountain and it's rarely turned off like it was in this picture. I don't have much opportunity to take water reflections, so I try it whenever I get a chance, and I was lucky this time. |
