Here is a shot of a fishing boat in the Port of Ilwaco, Washington shot three days ago.

The first shot is a simple split to RGB and discarding the Green and Blue channels. No other adjustments were made.

That seems to have worked really well. You have good whites and blacks with nice neutral greys throuout. Plus, that's a really great subject.

What a great shot, Cal. I like the monochrome version much better than the color original - it really works well. If it were mine, I'd print this one out as big as I could and frame it.Outstanding subject, too.

good b&w conversion! however, the shot doesn't do a lot for me aesthetically. mainly, I find the light seems a little flat. i bet if you took the shot in the morning or evening you'd get some really interesting shadows playing here!
