Amid garage clutter, my graceful wife proudly exhibits her trusty 'sit up and beg' bicycle, which was already quite old and dilapidated when she bought it from a fellow Cambridge student in 1972.

It's still in regular use for local rides with the children on nice summer days. This is in spite of its high technology Sturmey Archer hub gear, which I believe to be lubricated with a mixture of sand and damp road grit with just a dash of oil, from the feel of it.

The broken blue door behind her is an example of useful life after dilapidation, helpfully stopping errant darts from hitting the wall.

After you wrote 'graceful wife' I was ready to say you're off your bonkers if you were also going to add 'dilapidated' wife.

That's one proud mama showing off her 'dilapidated' bike.
