And a closer view for those having trouble seeing with only 1 candle power.

Cool pics Paul! (literally!) Is this where the concept of icy hot came from?

Very good. Inquiring minds want to know...How did you do it? Did you freeze a candle in an ice cube is it something totally different.

A picture is worth a thousand words. This is your backstage pass.

Very clever and well done!

That's cheating ! Actually, very creative idea and a neat photo, but my wife was looking at the original shot and she says there is a way to make actual ice candles. She had seen it in one of her crafts books. She just didn't remember how to do it.

Very tricky. The illusion definitely works.

If you were to freeze a small candle (e.g. birthday candle) in a block of ice with the wick sticking out, I wonder if it would burn. I suspect it would burn for a few seconds and then be drowned by the melted ice. If some of the candle (1/4 inch or so) was exposed, it would burn longer. There are a lot of variables--The effect of the low temperature on combustion, whether the melt pool of hot wax would hold back the water, etc. These are all things someone may want to experiment with.
