Flying IN the sunrise.

As I was flying home from a recent business trip from Alaska we were flying into the sunrise. As we are flying I kept looking out the window at the changing scenery produced from the impending sunrise. We were flying through a very thin layer of clouds with thicker clouds off in the distance. Suddenly the plane was flying IN the sunrise. For a minute it was like we were in a cotton candy machine. I managed to get a few photos and a short video. This is a shot from one of the photos.

Painting is an additive art. The artist adds to the canvas until they stop with their version of reality. Digital photography is subtractive art. First we throw away 90 percent of reality then remove what is left bit by bit until we have only the reality we wish to show. Flickr is like fun. PPG is like work. A camera is a machine of light and time with the purpose of capturing a luminous moment. Like the eye it is a tool of the mind.

Incredibly striking photo of the sunrise. The wing of the plane outlined against the colors of the sky provides an ethereal effect.

Really beautiful. How fortunate to have been able to experience and capture the beauty.
