Hi, this is my first post on the board and I truly welcome your comments. I really enjoy the beutiful pics I see on this board and hope you enjoy mine as well.

I snapped this pic in the parent's yard this afternoon, adjusted the contrast just a hair, other than that it's 'straight out da box'...

Thanks, Ray

Intense reds in flowers are hard to get without that velvety edging, perhaps taking it again earlier in the morning with the sun not so high and bright. Good composition and contrast with the green leaves around the central cluster.

I agree with everyone. Suzan offered excellent advice concerning sunlight since flowers usually come out better when the sun isn't directly on them. Strong sun tends to wash out color and delicate veining. Do give this sort of shot another try. A cloudy day might work very well. You could try a slight underexposure, too.

Welcome, Hang Ten, to the forum!

Your first post is a photo so I know this is a sign of some great things to come from your creative talents!

Iecho others' comments but also your DOF is superb...in most flower closeups the blurred background is green...in your background you "hint" that there is more red where that (foreground) came from!
