I was walking down a street in Marakina (Manila suburb) in the Philippines. The wall is actually the front fence to someon's house, there was this tiny void in the concrete of the fence, this small flower was growing out of the void. It appears the seed had blown in and sprouted there, the whole plant was less than 6 inches ltall.

Nice find, seems a little flat though. I think it needs to be brightened a little.
Have you heard of the "rule of thirds"? If you haven't it may be worth knowing. I think it would help this shot a lot. http://photoinf.com/Golden_Mean/Mich..._of_Thirds.htm http://www.silverlight.co.uk/tutoria...se/thirds.html And to really bore you. There is a plant called a wallflower. http://www.bbc.co.uk/gardening/plant...ges/5067.shtml http://www.crocus.co.uk/search/resul...flower&x=0&y=0 |

Hi Ferny,
Thanks for the comments, yes I have heard of the rule of thirds, and guess what, I completely spaced it out when I found this flower growing out of a concrete wall, and just snapped the picture. To make matters even more embarassing, I was using my Fuji S7000, I could have pushed one button and had the gridmarks on the viewfinder (consider my wrists slapped), maybe the fact I was in 35 degree C tempratures and the day before in Minnesota winter. Allthough as Vito suggested, with a little cropping and enhancement, I can still salvage a respectable photo out of it. I had no idea that there was such a flower called a Wallflower, I wonder if that could be a local common name in the UK? Take Care... Terry |
