the trillium grows wild here, though not as commonly as it once did. it prefers leafy, humus soil in shady areas...

So that's what a Trillium looks like! I knew it was a flower but I've never seen one. There is a lake just south of Mt. Hood named Trilium Lake but I don't think I've ever seen this flower around there. There is a beautiful view of Mt. Hood from the dam with the lake in the foreground. I posted a panoramic shot of it about a year ago.
