This is a safety gate on one of the many drawbridges crossing the Willamette River in downtown Portland. The gate is similar to a railroad crossing gate. It swings down to block traffic when the bridge is being raised.

Nikon D100, Sigma 28-70mm f2.8 lens, 1/4000th second, f2.8, ISO200, Matrix metering.

Very patriotic. Perhaps adding a tad of saturation would increase the intensity of the red in the pole and even out the colors a smidge or is it my monitor? oh well...
