New Challenge…August 30 – September 13

From about.com

"The name silhouette comes from the French politician, Etienne de Silhouette (1709-

67) who was briefly and unpopularly in charge of tax collection, and was probably meant as a satirical reference to the brevity of his holding office."

There is also the theory that in retirement Etienne de Silhouette became quite good at cutting silhouettes out of paper.

The silhouette is a black image without detail against a light or brighter background. Most commonly used light source is the sun, but experiment with other light sources. The main key to lighting is to have your background lighter than your subject. It also helps to have the light source directly behind your subject, this will add a glow around your silhouette if that is desired.

So, go play with light sources and silhouettes.

As always, two posts per day, two images per post.

I am looking forward to the creativity this forum never fails to provide.
