Every single indoor portrait shot that I take of my blond-haired, blue-eyed daughters results in terrible red-eye. I setred-eye reduction on and the flash mode to auto. The little red lamp comes on just before the flash fires, butI don't think this is powerful enough to do the job. My Kodak DC280 uses a pre-flash that completely eliminates red-eye. I love the image quality of the Canon camera, but I can't afford to edit every single indoor shot to eliminate red-eye. Is there some way to set the flash to pre-fire to eliminate red-eye? Any other suggestions?

Does it help if the subject is not looking directly at the camera? Looking towards a bright light slightly off to the side may help also.

I believe this is a known issue with Canon (and not only) cameras .

People with beautifulnon darkeyes (blue, green, etc.) will end with red eyes, and the red eye reduction is useless.

I have the same problem taking photos inside, when my boy looks great, but the blue-gray eyes of my daughters come out red.
