Having outgrown my Olympus 400 I am now looking to upgrade
to the Cannon A95. I like the look and feel of the camera very much
and it seems to have great features. But one thing bothers me, and that's
purple fringing that has been mentioned. A friend owns a G5 and on some
of his pictures the pruple fringing around bare branches against a light
sky is vey noticeable. Is the A95 ok in this respect.
My alternative camera is the Olympus 5060. My Olympus 400 produced no
purple fringing whatsoever (to my untrained eyes) but let me down badly
mainly because I really had very little control over it's function. Very much
a point and shoot camera.

Any help please

I have been looking into this issue myself and found some good examples of purple fringing with the A95 in the sample pictures included in Steve's review of the A95 on this web site. Unfortunately he doesn't give details of the camera settings used though. I was equally surprised that the same scenes captured by the far cheaper A75 were devoid of any obvious purple fringing.
