Don't.
The camera's pixels will burn out. Buy a 20 webcam... same quality without destroying your real camera

rp3, I've heard of that (burn out) too. I don't know if it's true. Does that also mean that we shouldn't use video mode on digicams? If there's any doubt it's a good idea not to use it as a webcam but I'm just wondering about the process of "burn out".

I think it's not as much of an issue. Webcam use and video use are order's of magnitude different. I have left a webcam on for 2-5 hours/day. My SD200 has a 1GB card that records all of 10 minutes on it. So if you imagine it's wear and tear, the amount of wear and tear done by a webcam use is not worth the $20 saved by a webcam
