The Powershot Elph 110 HS that I am looking at, does have a Digic 5 Processor, and the improved High Sensitivity CMOS sensor, but it also has the 1/2.3 sized sensor with 16.1mp. The Powershot 310 HS uses the 1/2.3 size, but it has 12.1mp instead of 16.1. Only downfall of the 310 is that it uses the Digic 4 processor instead of the Digic 5. I need to do a little more research and see if any of the Powershot ELPH "HS" cameras use the Digic 5 with less than 16.1mp. That might be my winner. |

You are correct in thinking 12 mp, would be better than 16, especially on a small sensor. The greatest difference between the Digic 4, and 5 processors is in faster burst, and supposedly focus rates. I think the focus issue is more related to the lens, rather than the processor.
But I do think the Digic 5, uses a few more focusing areas. To someone like me, who does mostly landscape photography, the little difference wouldn't affect my decision. Both processors are better than the competition, no matter who it is.

OK, here is my Update.
After looking at all of the 1/2.3" High Sensitivity CMOS Image Sensors, I was coming to a conclusion that anything with a Digic 5 Processor had 16mp, and if it had less than 16mp it was a Digic 4 Processor. Then...I found something. The Canon PowerShot SX260 HS has the Digic 5 Processor and has 12.1mp. So here is the tale of the tape between the two I have been contemplating: Canon PowerShot ELPH 110 HS: 16.1mp High Sensitivity CMOS Image Sensor (1/2.3") Digic 5 Processor 5x Optical Image Stabilized Zoom 24mm Wide-Angle Lens 1080p Full HD Video Recording Amazon.com Price: $179.00 Canon PowerShot SX260 HS: 12.1mp High Sensitivity CMOS Image Sensor (1/2.3") Digic 5 Processor 20x Image Stabilized Zoom 25mm Wide-Angle Lens 1080p Full HD Video Recording Amazon.com Price: $279.00 Part of me tells me I probably can't go wrong with either camera. The 110 is smaller, and the 260 is more expensive. Maybe I'll get lucky and find a sale before Christmas. |

Consider also the SX240HS if you can do without the GPS facility ( I know I could..!)

Amazon says they have them @ about $270.00?, don't remember the exact number. You are looking for last years model, and possibly Amazon may be your best/only resource. Do Not!, go to E (UGH) Bay. Where you may get ripped, shafted, and drafted. I don't know how long they will be allowed to exist, but anytime is too long. HEY!, mister Obama kill E-Bay, I might even consider voting for you. Well no!, that ain't going to happen. But I would recommend you for P.D.C, (public dog catcher). ![]()

I can't seem to find the SX240HS anywhere on Amazon.com
When searching you get either the 230 or the 260 but not the 240. Am I doing something wrong? |
