I'm so excited. Finely a Canon digicam with large zoom with image stabilizer. But there are a few things I don't like. No AF Assist lamp (why are all large zooms missing this). Less impressive macro mode (10cm).

If I'm going to buy the s1, I'll also buy a lens adapter and coupling ring. To attache a 50mm F1.4 reversed on the s1 for those super-macro photo's. Who has experience with reversing a lens on a digicam?

I also don't like the wide-agle on the S1 (38 - 380 mm equiv.).
I don't need a external flash but it is always nice to have that option. I'm guessing the red-eye will be less with the S1 because of the flip-up flash.

3mpixels is enough for me. At least it's not 2 mpixels.

Reason to buy a Canon S1 IS is because, my Powershot a40 doesn't allow me to take a picture of a frog without scaring the frog.

Thanks for the advice. Most people are aware that red eye can be fixed, but dont want to have to deal with it.

Here is an example: Last Christmas, I took a bunch of shots of the Christmas pageant at Church. Most shots had ~ 5 kids in them. All had red eye problems. I had about 40 pics in all. 40 pics x 5 kids x 2 eyes = 400 red eyes to fix. No thanks. I'd rather use an external flash, and not have that much post processing work.

I also noticed there is no Slow sync mode on the Powershot S1 IS.

- Operation Modes Auto, Red-Eye Reduction ON/ OFF
- Flash Range 1.0 – 4.2m/ 3.3 – 14 ft., 1.0 – 3.8m/ 3.3 – 12 ft.
- (When sensitivity is set to ISO 100 equivalent)
- Recycling Time Approx. 12 sec. or less (battery voltage=6.0V)
- Flash Exposure Compensation +/- 2.0 stop in 1/3-stop increments

Does anyone knows if the image stabilization makes a big difference?
