Default canon S1 IS vs canon A80

hi everybody,

i cannot decide which one to choose
a80 -> 4 megapixel with CCD 1/1.8 and cheaper
S1 IS -> 3 megapixel with CCD 1/2.7 10x zoom+IS
no AF-assist lamb

actually i can afford two of them

but i want to make the right choice (is the difference(1/1.8 and 1/2.7) between ccd sizes so important?) and what do you think about AF-assist issue?)

i am an intermediate amateur..

thank u

Don't focus (no pun intended) on the difference between 3 and 4 Mp. They are totally different cameras: the A80 is your everyman, and a very competent one at that. The IS is a long-distance animal, designed for architectural, sports and wildlife photography in broad daylight. The lack of an AF-assist lamp means the autofocus will often struggle in lowlight and interior situations, particularly since that 10x lens = alot of glass.

Yes. I agree too. They are totally different cameras. Choosing which exactly depends on your own shooting behaviour. If you think you'd like to bring the camera frequently and critical on image quality you'd better get an A80. S1 IS is a bit bulky, and the 10x zoom is not everyday need. In fact, I would suggest panasonic FZ10 even if you find super zoom useful.
