How do I get movies off of my S2 and onto my PC? And what software do you use to convert them from AVI to something more useable?

I took the SD card and put it in the card reader and then copied the files to my harddrive but they will not open in Adobe Premiere Elements (and they should shouldn't they?) and my conversion software (Convertmovie 4.0) says it cannot read them.

These movies all played fine on the camera last night.

Well I've discovered that they open and play in Quicktime. (Why am I not excited by this news?) So you can record these great movies (the S2 is great in low light by the way) but you cannot do anything with them once you have them!!! That sucks. http://photography-on-the.net/forum/...s/icon_cry.gif http://photography-on-the.net/forum/...s/icon_cry.gif http://photography-on-the.net/forum/...s/icon_cry.gif http://photography-on-the.net/forum/...s/icon_cry.gif http://photography-on-the.net/forum/...s/icon_cry.gif http://photography-on-the.net/forum/...s/icon_cry.gif http://photography-on-the.net/forum/...s/icon_cry.gif http://photography-on-the.net/forum/...s/icon_cry.gif http://photography-on-the.net/forum/...s/icon_cry.gif http://photography-on-the.net/forum/...s/icon_cry.gif http://photography-on-the.net/forum/...s/icon_cry.gif http://photography-on-the.net/forum/...s/icon_cry.gif

Shooting the odd movie is one of the reasons I carry this as a backup. I may have to re-think this. And this may be my last S series camera if this continues.

Anyone know if there is something that can convert this horrible format to something usable?

Well avi files open with Windows Media Player for me?

What format do you want to convert to ?

Mpg? Mov? RM? Wmv?

Thousands of pieces of software on the market to convert from one video format to another,a google search or a look at http://www.videohelp.com/convertmight help.

I can open regular AVI files (from my camcorder) just fine but these S2 AVI/MJPG files do not open. So I downloaded and installed version 11 of WMP thinking that my old version was messed up. No change though.

I'd like to convert them to most any format; regular AVI, MPEG or WMV. Something I can write to DVD.

I will have to sift thru Videohelp tomorrow and see what I can find.

Or just carry the camcorder and leave this useless S2 at home!

Update: I discovered that Quicktime Pro will convert these files to several different formats, all of which will work for me. So at least I was able to use the video I shot Tuesday night but I sincerely doubt I'll ever use the S2 again for video. It's just too much hassle to get them onto a DVD.

I have no problems playing these AVIs in media player... also use windows movie maker (free with XP) to convert them to a more manageable size...

I've had no problems getting anyone else to play the converted AVIs

Windows Movie Maker was something I used to use alot but for the last six months it has failed to work for any file. I'd reinstall it if I could find a link for downloading it somewhere.

Tonight I will try to play one of these files on a different PC and see what happens.

I wonder if there has been a software upgrade for the S2 that I have missed, have to check on that.

Download virtualdub, you can edit movies with it. When you install quicktime

it set all you presets, open it and fix that if you like.

I bought a DVD drive and it came with nero, which has nerovision express 2,

which does a lot of stuff well. Makes VCD,VDVD, mpg4,mpg2,mpg1 ect.
