Hello, new member here. I have been wanting to upgrade for a while (XTi) but just cant afford to get a dslr with all the good lenses I want (walk-around, tele, and macro). I'd also have to give up video which I really like on my S1 IS.

I am really happy still with my S1 IS but despite being only 2 yrs and a couple months old, 3.2MP seems like dinosaur crap already. I really like the features of the Sx IS line and will be following these threads about the S5, trying to determine if it will be the best camera for me. The only thing I whis different was that canon didnt switch from using CF cards like my S1 IS has, since I have several 1 and 2 GB cards. Oh well.

So please once anyone has some good reviews on it please post!

You can find 1GB SD cards for under $25 so that shouldn't be an issue when evaluating a $500 camera.

No, its not a big issue, just a complaint. I've already had one memory card type die out on me with digicams and I fear the same will happen to CF if I dont go dslr. So call it a peeve when they change up the memory cards. It will probably add about $100 to the total price, or one-fifth more. It will also mean I will have wasted some of my money with my current CF cards as they are worth much less now and I will not be able to get near my cost out of them if I try and sell them, so about another $100 loss.

Even if they did still use compact flash your cards probably could not keep up with the speed of the new video anyway. You have to have at least a 150x on the s3.

I am not sure what speed you need for the s5, I am sure the 150x would work fine.



Anyone find any supplier's with the s5 for sale yet?

I keep finding info that the camera is to be released June and then many that say July.

I thik when Canon's website has the actual pdf and drivers online to download then maybe they will be somewhere to buy.

Thanks for posting the manual. It's interesting that the manual does not contain a picture or diagram of the top, front, rear and sidesof the camera identifying all of the buttons.

If someone buys one of these, I would really like to know how well it focuses in low light. I have a G5 that I like a lot, but I have to try several times to get the autofocus to work in low light even when I purposely point at a high-contrast subject.

Also, I would like to know how well the manual focus works. The manual focus system on the G5 is basically worthless.
