Now that the Canon S80 can take 1024x768 movies (although at 15-fps only), approaching HDTV, will more Hi-Res movie capable DC's be coming?

Also I think S80 may be still using M-JPEG. If Canon would adopt MPEG-4 (I am not sure for what reason they do not), I think they may be able to boost the frame rate to full 30-fps (MPEG-4 bandwidth requirement is just a fraction of M-JPEG).

What do you think???

Using Canon's [email protected] M-JPEG playing data rate of 2MB/sec, we may estimate that [email protected] requires about 5.2MB/sec.

Also taking into account the processing time for the compression, I would estimate a total required bandwidth is about 10MB/sec.

Would that be too high for current flash cards?

Canon may also want to squeeze every single $$$ out of us with the DIGIC II technology (which also does the movie compression), b4 they will implement any improvement e.g. MPEG-4 into DIGIC III.
