![]() ![]() There is another Canon model that had a similar problem. I hope enough people send up enough flack to pressure Canon in to doing something. Please spread the word. Like I said, it's Canon's bad attitude that bothers me. By the way srki, I've been to Belgrade(Beograd).Fabulous food, charming city and nice people. It's a wonder any one can stand with all the schnapps that's served. What is that purple juice that they serve? It is so good. |

It is worth repeating from earlier in the thread:
"I know that several online retailers that specialise in flash cards have statements on their sites to check with them before you buy as not all flash cards are the same. Even though there is a standard, there will be deviations - eg Lexar and the USB enabled cards." I suggest searching on google - flash card issues are not limited to Canon. G |

Sounds more like Canon has made some "deals" with certain CF manufactureres to only support their cards.

Hi all,
I have been using a Fuji 1GB 20x CF card in my S1 IS, I get problems too. Specifically it's an issue when powering up straight into "play" mode - the display shows 'busy' then after ages, it says 'no image' ! To get the images back, I simply turn off the camera, pop out the CF card, re-insert it and power on again, the images are then displayed. The alternative and quicker method is to always power-up in "record" mode, then use the shortcut power switch method to select "play" without powering down - just puch in the small pip on the power switch and push the toggle accross to "play". So far this has always worked for me and I have not lost any images.Incidentally, youcan go straight back to "record" mode again simply by half-depressing the shutter button - very useful. I can only assume the problem here is to do with the CF interface having communications issues with certain CF cards, perhaps the CF cardis not responding quickly enough upon power up ? If you go into record mode first, thenmaybe the CF card has time to power up and be ready before data has to be written - even the amount of time it takes to compose and focus the shot will be long enough. However, if you go straight into "play" the camera is trying to access the CF card for data immediately - if it doesn't respond the camera software is unable to access the card and displays "no image". I'm happy to use this workaround if it saves me paying a premium for a "Canon" branded Sandisk CF. |

I have used a Transcend 256MB CF on my S1 IS with good success. I transfer the pictures to my Super Digibin with 20GB hard drive with no problems. I thought about a larger card for movies. I decided to upgrade the Super Digibin to 80GB and take smaller movies. The Super Digibin is available from Insidecomputer.com . It was a great investment over media.

I have no problems with memory cards ***before*** upgrading the firmware to 1.0.1.0 version, but I've upgrade camera firmware last week and now I've a lot of reading problems with memory cards.
I think so that "memory errors" are in fact a serious bug in the last firmware published by CANON. Unfortunately it is not possible to return to the 1.0.0.0 firmware version because CANON only post this last ***bugly*** version. BE CAREFUL!!! DO NOT UPGRADE FIRMWARE!!! |

Okay, you are scaring me now! I have just decided to buy an S1 because it can handle a GB card. hmmm Can it handle more? Anyway if I do get it will I have buyers remorse? My friend has a Nikon 5700 and I was thinking about the 8700. But I love lots of zoom power. And the whole battery thing. It's nice to run to the store if your out and the batterys die! My fingers on on the order button. Should I?

After a month, I received a mail from Canon yesterday:
"Incident Number 1122454 Thank you for your recent enquiry regarding your Canon product. When a CF card is formatted in Windows XP, "FAT32" will be selected as the default file system setting. When using a "FAT32"-formatted CF card in some Canon digital cameras, this error message may appear on the camera's LCD monitor. In this case, format the CF Card with a Canon digital camera to make it usable in that camera. If in-camera formatting fails, remove the CF Card, then re-insert it and try to format it again. Should all of the above fail then please try another recommended CF card in the Camera to identify where the problem lies? Canon recommends using Sandisk CF cards with a standard write speed. www.sandisk.com If another recommended CF card works as intended then the first CF card is faulty and you should cease using it with immediate effect. However if another recommended CF card does not work and displays the same errors then your problem description indicates an error, which we suggest, should be checked and repaired by a Canon authorized service centre. Contact addresses as well as telephone numbers can be found on www.canon.co.uk by clicking on "Contact Us", and then on "Local Canon Contacts". Click on "Authorised repair centres for Photos & Video products". We hope this information is of use to you. However, should you require any further technical assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us quoting your Incident number. To contact us via email, click on the following link: https://self-service.canon-europe.com/uk/login/ss.cgi?LANG=en. Note: Please do not reply to this email using your "REPLY" tab. Kind Regards, Canon UK" Bulls*it! |
