Ixus VII (SD100) noisy video sound?

Can anyone tell me whether the sound from a video is as noisy as the Ixus V3 (SD230 )? My Ixus V3 has bad background noise a bit like a washing machine sometimes but generally a steady hiss. It is particularly bad in a quiet setting. Apparently this is a common problem with this camera. Please don't remind me that this is primarily a camera for photographs as Canon sell it with a video function which should include good audio. Kodak can manage perfect sound at half the price so why can't Canon. I'm loathe to buy another Canon if the problem remains but I love everything else about the Ixus V3.
