My camera in made in japan (I don't know the components..). There is a little plate on the bottom saying that the camera respect all canadian laws!:? I bought the camera on thegratest Europen website (with sections in each state) that ships from Paris, France.
Anyway don't worry about provenience of components! The important thing is that they're made with Japanese (Canon) standards...So look just to the Canon Quality standards!!:G For example: Toyota (worldwide leader in quality in cars) produces models for Europe here (Europe) but standards are japanese...:blah: |

I think it doesnt really matter where its made when it comes to big companies. I was working in HK and frequently had to travel to China. China tech. no no further than the rest of the world.
Anyhow, what I want to say is that its all the same with warranty and all.. :-) |

The Canon S2 IS is made in Japan.
Generally speaking, DO NOT buy cameras made in Malaysia, China, etc. My Pentax Optio camera was made in China, and its lens jammed within three months of use , and the LCD quality was terrible. 2 rules - 1. Do not buy cameras that are not made in either Japan or Germany. 2. Stay well away from Pentax P&S cameras - if you don't believe me, check out the Pentax forums, and you will be enlightened. |

Intereting that the small degree represents the distance from Canada to Italy...
ELDDJOC: I think that you're just unlucky that you have had bad experience with that camera. But sometimes, companies will only cover manufacturers from China or Thailand for warranty. Those from Japan, you will have to send back directly to Japan for them... Similarly as Hard disk drive (I worked in one previously), and it all depends on specifications and sometimes we would allow "non-perfect" items to ship to customers. They are still within spec, but on the bad side. But thats just me, what do others think? |
