I just got a new A720IS. The numbering system is the same as my old A series Canon camera, ie Img_0001.
Is there any way that I can set them numbering to a higher number so I don't run inot a conflict on files. I know that I can put in the card from my old camera in the new and start from there but my wife will still use the old one, so problems again. I was wondering if I could start with someting like Img_7000 of something like that. Any help would be appreciated. |

Somewhere in the "Menu" settings you should find a setting for "File number re-set".
If this is set to "ON", the file no. will re-set to 0001 every time you put in a new card. If it is set to "OFF", the camera will always use the next number, whether you have a new card or not. |

So you could stick the year & month on the front, for example, to ensure you get unique filenames, or just a single digit which you could increment whenever you started to run out of numbers. Make sure you renumber backup copies, not the originals, until you're confident. Good Luck! |

OK, I figured it out. The last post got me thinking. Took a picture and then inserted the SD card in the computer and changed the file name to IMG_7000 and then put it back into the camera. The camera picked up the sequence and then started from there.
I thought that I could get a little creative and change the IMG to something like Y07 but that would not work. the next picutre was IMG_7002. |

This is good info. Thanks DAYMX5, I didn't know that.
I tried this with my 710 and it works. You can rename to a higher number and the camera picks up the sequence. However, you can't rename to a lower number. The camera will remember the highest number and pick up from there. If you want a lower number you have to use the "Auto Reset" option in the menu which will reset it to 0001, then use your computer and rename to the number you want. Hope this works with my 30D also. |
