I own 3 canon digital cameras an A70, G2, and an S30...the S30 seems to take much better pictures than the A70, even though the A70 has the new Digic processor...is that hype or is there an added benefit to that processor

The S30 has a larger and better sensor than the A70, which is why it produces better images. The Digic processor is more for autofocus speed and exposure, while the sensor itself is the actual source of the image.
Think of it this way. In film terms the A70 be the latest EOS Rebel Ti or whatever is current while the S30 is the very first EOS 620. The new one is faster and more sophisticated. Of course, if the latest film camera is always loaded with ISO 200 print film and the old one with ISO 50 slide film, the older one will produce significantly better images. That is the relationship between sensor and processor. |
