Hi,
Does anyone know if the Power Shot G9 is able to use a 8GB memory card or is it limited to 4GB? Regards Ben Short |

On a website, I read that the G9 can use a card that's larger than 4 GB in capacity. Although, for movie mode, I think that the movie has a limit of 4 GB per movie clip.
On steve's camera review, it says "The Powershot G9 is equipped with a card slot that supports use of SD or MMC cards up to 2GB or SDHC cards up to 4GB". I haven't tried it myself, but the G9 can probably use an 8 GB card. But due to the FAT (ie FAT32) file system, the size of each file (such as a movie clip) will have a maximum allowed size.....and this size is about 4 GB. |

The Canon Powershot G9 is supposed to take SDHC cards. I am fairly sure that SDHC cards can be made up to 32GB so therefore I would expect all SDHC enabled devices to be able to take up to 32GB, unless otherwise specified. Of course the 4GB movie limit will still apply but how many times will you want to take a movie above 4GB? That is about 32 minutes or more!
