Hello, everyone. I have a good old Powershot A20 with which I am very satisfied, but now I want to push it a little bit further and use it to photograph insects and birds. What can be more useful, a telephoto lens or a monocular? Anybody has experience with these gadgets?

Another question, I have seen at the japanese Canon web an adjustement program that "improves the AF accuracy close to the telephoto end". Is it worthwhile to install it? Has anybody tried it? Is it safe?

Many people have used the adjustment program. You first have to determine if your camera needs it by following the instructions at that web site. Also you have to follow the instructions TO THE LETTER...no shortcuts or changes. If it says new batteries, use new batteries, etc. We have used the one for the A40.

I was told that I needed the program for my A40 so I went to the Canon site and downloaded the adjustment program as it is callled but I don't notice any difference.

The A40 program is just for the softness at ONE telephoto setting, just slightly down from maximum zoom. It does not fix any other problem with focus, such as low light shooting or trying to focus on a difficult subject, such as sky or metal or glass, etc. It also doesn't address the issue of unsharpness or either edge of the picture, which many have problems with (including a friend of mine) which seems to be caused by a slight misalignment of the lens or CCD..
