I just got my Powershot S1. So here's the thing: It seems to me that most people will use the camera in two ways:
1.Take photos using the green AUTO setting on the mode dial.
2. Shoot movies using the "movie" setting on the mode dial.
So why is the "movie" setting on the absolute opposite side of the mode dial to the AUTO setting? Shouldn't these settings be right next to each other, so that a change from one mode to the other would be easy?

Here's another thing: The camera has a dedicated "movie" button that is used in place of the shutter button to shoot movies. Yet in order to shoot movies, one must FIRST turn the mode dial to "movie" mode, then press the movie button. Why not design the camera to take movies whenever the movie button is pressed, regardless of the mode that dial is set to? Doesn't it make sense that a user who pushes the movie button wants to shoot a movie?

I can see my future with this camera, constantly turning the mode dial from AUTO to movie mode, wearing the poor dial out, cussing at whoever designed the user interface for this camera.

Or am I getting this wrong? Is there some easier way to change from taking photos to shooting movies?

Well I spend most of my time moving from auto to P or camera to playback. i have hardly used the movie mode (as i haven't got around to upgrading my memory card yet). If this is the only problem you have with the camera I reckon you've done rather well.
