problem with a70 power conservation mode
Has anyone had any problems with the a70 and the check batteries icon/message. No matter whether I use brand new AA or fully charged NiMH batteries the display flashes the low battery icon and the check batteries message comes up on the LCD. The camera then goes into low power mode making it very difficult to interact with. If i quickly change it to review mode or picture mode I can start operation, but if I pause at any time it will go into the power conservation mode. BY putting up with the low power mode I can take many pictures >50 with no problem - so I'm almost positive it isn't the batteries themselves, but rather something in the A70 itself :(

Yes, I had exactly the same problem, and no amount of new alkaline or rechargable batteries would get it going again (panic!).

I eventually cured it by turning the camera off, removing the compact flash memory card, re-inserting it, and powering back on. It's almost as if it had written its low battery state to memory and was not wiping it when the new batteries went in.

Hope this helps.

Does that mean you have to remove the flash card every time you change the batteries?
Wouldn't you call that a defective camera?
I would take it back and ask for a new one.
The reason I'm asking is because I am considering buying one.
