I have a Canon PowerShot A70 that is less than 2 years old, but, unfortunately no longer under warranty. Very suddenly it won't work, says "memory card error". The memory card works in other camers, but not in mine. Is this worth fixing or is the camera totally dead? Have others had this problem? I bought this camera because of the positive reviews, but I did expect it to last longer than this!

You probably tried already, andit might not make a difference, but did you format the card?

Just take it down to the local digicam shop and ask them if they can help you out by sticking one of their old cards into your camera. They'll probably have a number of cards that you could use for testing while inside their shop, and you can even format them. Just tell them you want to determine whether or not there is a problem with your camera. If the camera doesn't work for any of the cards, then it's got to be the camera.

Thanks for the suggestion. The difficult part to my situation is that I live in West Africa, so don't have a local digicam store. This is why I bought this particular camera - it sounded very solid and reliable.

I see ... you already mentioned that you had access to other cameras right? This probably means that you'll have access to memory cards that go with those other cameras...or at least the people that own those other cameras can lend you a memory card to try out. You'd probably have to format their card, but maybe they'll have spares for you to try. If it doesn't work even after inserting their cards, then we'll know where the problem lies.
