S1 IS & Hitachi Microdrive for video capture
Does anyone know if video at 640 X 480 at 30 FPS fine mode can be captured on the Canon S1 IS using the Hitachi Microdrive (2 or 4 GB)?
Thanks. |
I have the 4GB drive and it works just fine.

There is no "1 GB limit", is there?
You can take up to 4 GB movies, I hope? |
Never mind, I just read in a review that it's not possible to record more than 1 GB per movie.
Oh well. At least it's easy as pushing a button to start another one. |
edstewbob,
Thanks for the reply. Is your 4 GB Hitachi microdrive taken from the Muvo2 mp3 player ? If so, this is the solution for me! |
I'm not sure of the source of my 4GB Hitachi drive. I bought it on eBay for $239. It was advertised as new and it is an OEM drive. I read the discussions about potential issues with OEM drives but mine works just fine. It does seem to eat batteries faster than my 512MB Sandisk that I also use in this camera. The drive uses more power, especially between pictures/movies during idle time because it spins at 3600RPM. The quality of the 640X480 fine movies amazes anyone who sees them and the 4GB drive makes this camera a good combo camera/camcorder for me.

edstewbob,
It looks like your experience confirms my planned use for the S1 -- to capture video. The OEM Hitachi 4GB drive is indeed used in the Muvo mp3 player and has become sort of a cult hit among digital photographers. Thanks again for your insights. :D |
