I'm hoping the 'pro's' can help me out. I just got the S2 IS (upgrade from the old Canon A70). I primarily needed the larger zoom to get my son's baskteball games, school plays - things I can't usually get too close to for my kids.

With this camera what is the best setting to get close, clear shots of things like this - especially the 'action' shots? I tried the indoor setting, I tried the P setting at 400 ISO (but I get shadows it seems and more 'grainy' photos).....Can I just use an auto setting? I'm just a mom with kids and a point and soot picture-taker so I'd love to have some guidelines on the best ways to capture these situations for an amateur. Thanks!

Umm, not really a good camera for low light shots.

If you have a noise reduction program try that on the ISO 400 shots, see if that helps.

Other than that, select the highest ISO you find the noise acceptable at (200?), set the widest aperture you can, and hope the lighting is good..

You may want to prefocus on say the basket area, ready for shots.

And you will want to use a tripod or monopod or prop the camera on a railing etc as your shutter speeds will tend to be very long and difficult to hold handheld without blur due to hand shake.
