I've been waiting for this one. 35X zoom is impressive, but I think tripod is needed at 35x zoom. I have tired the SX30's zoom ( http://canon-sx30.blogspot.com/ ) and I am satisfy with the results. I'm surprised they didn't bump the video up to 1080 though. Not a deal breaker, just something I was expecting from this model.
Also there is no Superfine mode which was also lacking on the SX20 but at least you can install CHDK hack in your SX20 and shoot in Superfine and Raw. |

Karl - I recently purchased the SX30 and you do not need a tripod at 35x zoom...and I have shakey hands! The IS on this camera is incredible. I've also taken hand held flash indoor shots at 1/15 second with no visible shake. And I've taken 140x hand held zoom shots that are as sharp at those taken at 35x. (If it's not windy, of course!) I just wish the indoor flash shots were decent. I can live without low light non flash shots but I really want good indoor flash shots. Not sure it's possible without external flash with this camera. Other than the indoor flash issues I love this camera. (High ISO noise is horrible but using Shutter Priority and ISO 100 takes care of the noise.)

Good zoom isn't it. I took it (The SX30) to the park last night. This first shot, the sailboat was on full zoom 35X. The boat has to be over a mile away but you can still make out detail. The rest were just test shots. I agree the indoor flash isn't good except fairly close up
It's going to be a good little camera for my daughter.
