The quality of the pictures are better the deeper you dive... At snorkeling depht there's not enough contrast to really brag about unless you dive under a coral or something and let the flash do all it works!

Cases that can go deeper than snorkeling depth are usually more expensive than what the OEM manufacturers put out...

Default Waterproof Case for S230

I own a Canon case for my S230 and can't rave enough about it. I have owned a Motor Marine II and Nikonos III and been scuba diving for a few years. I'll never go back to film for underwater photography.

Here are some shots from only my 2nd time using the housing (that's me in the yellow trim.)

I have also taken underwater video with the camera and was delighted to find out that I could hear my bubles. I took it to Maui this Spring and I could even faintly here the humpback whale calls on my video (you can hear them when you're underwater. It's very eerie)!

The case is rated at 33m or 100ft. Though I've taken it to about 109 ft without any trouble. The case seems pretty well built , especially for being under $200!
The fact that an inexpensive OEM case is available for the S230 was a major reason for me buying the S230 (the case was designed for the S200 orignally.)
