Default What the heck did I do?

My little Canon S5IS has been a great camera for snapshots.
Today, I was snapping away and got an alert to replace the batteries.
Literally. "Please replace batteries" while the set I had in still had a fair charge in them, I was a little surprised to see they were dead already.
I replaced them with a freshly charged set, turned my camera on, and ...

No power, no flicker on the screen..nothing.

I'm thinking the "Please replace batteries" warning could have been a bigger issue than low batteries, as I've never seen that warning before.
Maybe I pressed something?

Anyone ever run into this issue before?

Welcome to the Forum, Randee-

I have never heard of a situation like you have encountered. As a quick cross check, I went and got my Canon S-5IS, which had been sitting idle for 6 months or so. I popped in fresly charged batteries and it fired up without a hitch.

Unless I'm specifically in a situation were I don't want to bother with changing batteries in the middle of things, I try to run the batteries all the way down before charging, so I have seen that message many times on my S5IS without issue. For your sake, but also selfishly, as this model is my only camera, I hope you have found something easy, though the only 'easy' thing that comes to mind is bad batteries...?
