Default What Settings Do I use.

My daughter is graduating in two weeks and the ceremony is indoors in a gym. We went for a dinner in the same gym and those pictures turned out bad. I used the pre-set settings, several different ones, and the lighting worked out but parts of the people were blurry (specially hands). I know I have to adjust my white balance, but what other settings do I need to change? What position does the mode dial need to be set in? I own a Canon Rebel XSI digital camera and don't want to miss out on good pictures for the the graduation. Also, can't afford the external flash.

1. Shoot in RAW to tweak lighting and WB in post processing.
2. Turn the dial to "M" for manual mode
3. Open Aperture up to 1.8 or 2.0
4. shoot a gray card or white piece of paper to set a custom WB or just use AUTO WB

5. Set Shutter Speed to 1/400 or 1/320
6. Set ISO to 1600

For 5 and 6 you will need to try small adjustments to get enough light to be decent.

Finally, I beleive youmay need to tweak the WB and maybe use some noise reduction when you get backk home to the computer.

Good Luck!

1. Set camera to AV. (Aperture Priority) and set it to the larger aperture (the smaller the number the larger the aperture).
2. Increase ISO until it is still not too grainy. Check your camera model because it is different in every camera.
3. Use an flash if it is possible but not overflash! Or just put on a videolight on the camera. They sell for $40 on ebay.

You will have great photos! Good luck and keep us updated how it worked out!
